Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida (CLSMF) is seeking an advocate for its Medical-Legal Partnership with the West Volusia Hospital Authority (WVHA). This position serves as the liaison between CLSMF, the WVHA Board of Commissioners, and a variety of human service entities and requires an individual who can effectively cultivate and develop relationships with stakeholders in western Volusia County. The Medical-legal Partnership Attorney or Paralegal provides WVHA patients assistance in obtaining healthcare coverage under Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, and the Healthcare Market Place.
This position includes regular client interaction including completing intakes, conducting interviews, and providing advice and counsel. The candidate in this role will serve as appointed representative in SSI, SSDI, Medicare, and Medicaid claims including filing initial applications; responding to requests and questionnaires from administrative agencies such as SSA, DCF, and CMS; collecting and reviewing medical records; writing comprehensive briefs; and attending hearings.
The individual in this position will conduct or participate in outreach events or activities of the unit and organization. This is a full-time position with the ability to work both scheduled and flexible work hours, including some evenings/weekends, based on business needs to perform duties, attend meetings and/or other functions throughout the CLSMF 12 county service area.
Minimum of 2-4 years’ experience. Experience with subject matter areas of orid. Commitment to low-income and/or vulnerable clients and communities with a high capacity to prioritize, manage simultaneous tasks, and meet strict deadlines within a rapid-paced environment. Ability to advocate consistently and zealously for clients in the regions we serve. Successful candidate will have highly approachable presentation, organizational skills, and the ability to effectively and consistently engage and collaborate with a diverse constituency of community stakeholders and organizations. Must possess excellent legal and community partnership skills and be computer literate (Microsoft Office 365). Valid Florida automobile license, use of own auto, and proof of insurance necessary. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
