Final Conference Recap

By Published On: May 13, 2024

As we say farewell to Nashville, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the success of our Annual Conference! First, we could not have done it without the support of our membership, presenters, exhibitors, and sponsors—we are grateful for each of you! We also want to thank our Board, staff, and partners at TME and Utopia who spent countless hours ensuring that this week would be memorable.

The conference began with our Bootcamp and staff-focused sessions, laying the foundation for a successful practice in Social Security disability law. Breakout sessions for the 11 circuits were packed this year, providing an opportunity for members to meet with their regional peers and focus on their specific issues and successes. Day one wrapped with a lively welcome reception hosted by NextGen, followed by the Scully Dinner where we enjoyed some fantastic Tennessee barbeque, a classic Irish tune from Mr. Scully himself, and a surprise visit from Commissioner O’Malley.

Day two opened with a yoga session to get us moving and ready for the day! Those who participated in the mentor/mentee program had the opportunity to connect over breakfast. We then jumped into our jam-packed General Session where we heard directly from Commissioner O’Malley, OHO leadership, and Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA). The afternoon was filled with presentations that ranged from utilizing emerging technology, working with veteran clients, representing disabled adult children, and navigating unique ethical challenges. Our Legal Services Meeting provided our nonprofit and legal aid members an opportunity to connect and openly discuss the unique challenges that they face.

After some restorative yoga, day three provided three tracks of continuing education with diverse content ranging from NOSSCR litigation updates, ethics sessions, current SSA issues, and a PAC and Government Affairs update from NOSSCR’s own David Camp and Betsy Osborn! The afternoon saw our first session that reached capacity and many intriguing exhibitor spotlights. The day ended with the President’s Reception where attendees had a chance to mingle, network, and dance the night away to some really great live music!

Finally, day four featured our symposium where an esteemed panel of speakers gave us a deep dive into overpayments and the ticket to work program. NOSSCR encouraged members to commit to taking at least one overpayment case this year, and, with the support provided during this symposium, we had a resoundingly impressive response!

Our week in Nashville was a tremendous success, and we owe it to all those involved. A special thank you to our NOSSCR members and the many volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to help us put on this great event! Next year we’ll see you in DC, followed by San Diego in the spring of 2026! In the meantime, we hope to see you at one of our webinars and fall events in San Antonio, Portland, and Fayetteville!
