SSA Updates Statutory Benefit Continuation Election Statement Form
June 26, 2025
As the Commissioner noted in his written testimony this week, the agency plans to “complete over 1,500 full medical continuing disability reviews each day and 400,000 this year; and over 10,000 non-medical redeterminations of eligibility.” This means it is highly likely you will encounter claimants who are looking for guidance about what to do if they receive a medical cessation. One important part of the appeal process for a medical cessation is deciding whether the beneficiary will elect to continue receiving benefits during their appeal at the reconsideration and hearing levels. This new Form SSA-792, which aims to clarify the instructions when compared to prior versions, must be received by the agency no later than 15 calendar days from the date on the termination notice. Please review the form below and replace any prior versions you might have been using.
