About the Position

This is an in-office, full-time position based in our office in Saint Petersburg, FL (conveniently located near Gandy Boulevard in a professional office park). Successful candidates will be responsible for representing veterans and their dependents in their claims for disability benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Your primary objective will be to advocate for our clients, ensuring they receive the compensation and benefits they deserve for service-related disabilities. As a VA Disability Claims Attorney, you will handle all aspects of the claims process, from initial application to appeals and administrative hearings.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal representation to veterans and their dependents in VA disability claims cases.
  • Conduct thorough interviews with clients to gather relevant information about their military service, disabilities, and medical history.
  • Evaluate the merits of each claim and determine the best strategy for obtaining maximum benefits.
  • Prepare and submit initial disability claims applications on behalf of clients, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Gather and review medical records, service records, and other supporting documents to build a strong case for disability benefits.
  • Develop persuasive legal arguments and draft comprehensive legal briefs to present clients’ cases effectively.
  • Represent clients in hearings before the VA Regional Office, the Board of Veterans’ Appeals, and other administrative bodies as required.
  • Conduct legal research to stay updated on VA regulations, policies, and precedents that may impact clients’ claims.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients to provide updates on the status of their claims and answer any questions or concerns.
  • Negotiate with VA officials, attorneys, and other parties to reach favorable settlements or agreements on behalf of clients.
  • Collaborate with medical professionals, vocational experts, and other specialists to obtain supporting evidence for disability claims.
  • Stay informed about changes in VA disability benefits law and attend relevant professional development opportunities to enhance expertise.
  • Uphold ethical standards and maintain client confidentiality at all times.
  • Meet billing and productivity targets set by the firm while maintaining high-quality work.

Job Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in the state where the position is located.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience handling VA disability claims or related verlans’ law matters.
  • Thorough understanding of the VA disability benefits system, including the claims process, rating criteria, and appeals procedures.
  • Familiarity with relevant federal laws, regulations, and court decisions governing VA disability claims.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong oral advocacy skills and ability to present complex information in a clear and persuasive manner.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Empathy and compassion for veterans and their families, with a commitment to helping them navigate the claims process successfully.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficient in using legal research tools, case management software, and other technology relevant to the job.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and commitment to providing high-quality legal services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working as an attorney in a reputable law firm or organization specializing in veterans’ law or VA disability claims.
  • Experience handling complex or high-value VA disability claims cases.
  • Knowledge of medical and mental health conditions commonly associated with military service.
  • Previous experience representing clients in administrative hearings or appeals.
