President’s Corner: NOSSCR Referral Service
May 28, 2026
Rob Wendt, NOSSCR President
Here’s an important question for all NOSSCR members: What are you doing with potential clients whose cases you decline? The short answer: Have them call the NOSSCR referral service to find another NOSSCR member who may be interested.
The NOSSCR referral service assists claimants in need of representation while also helping NOSSCR members grow their practices. The NOSSCR referral service is also an important source of income for NOSSCR through the affordable subscription fees that NOSSCR members pay to participate. In short, this is a win-win-win situation for claimants, NOSSCR members, and NOSSCR as an organization.
The types of cases you decline to take, and the reasons for saying no to a potential claimant are varied. You’re getting calls about federal court appeals, but you do not handle cases at that level; SSI cases when you handle only Title II claims; a case where you have a conflict; or calls from claimants in states where you don’t practice. If you are unable to represent someone who reaches out to your office for assistance, why not give the caller the opportunity to connect with another NOSSCR member who will? Sometimes the best client service is providing a referral to another qualified representative.
The NOSSCR referral service is available to all NOSSCR members. If you cannot assist a prospective client please provide them with the NOSSCR Social Security Disability referral service number (845-682-1881) which can be found on the NOSSCR website.
Every month the NOSSCR referral service connects hundreds of prospective claimants with NOSSCR members. Connecting claimants in need with qualified representatives is one of the ways NOSSCR fulfills its mission, helps our members grow their practices, and generates important monthly income for NOSSCR operations. Positive outcomes like this exemplify the exceptional value of NOSSCR to our membership and to the disabled Americans we are dedicated to serve. Please join us in this effort.
