NOSSCR is working on Capitol Hill in support of RECON Act–introduced in the House of Representatives as H.R. 8478 on April 24, 2026. This legislation would add one sentence to both Title II (DI) and Title XVI (SSI) for new claims: “The Commissioner may not require reconsideration of the initial decision or determination prior to the hearing.” This would give our clients optional reconsideration–not just in some states, but all of them; and not just as a pilot but permanently.
